Creamy Horseradish Aioli
Creamy horseradish aioli is a perfect homemade dipping sauce for steak, french fries, or roasted vegetables. This easy recipe packs a huge punch of flavor!

Creamy horseradish sauce is a staple dipping sauce at my favorite fancy steak restaurant. With little kids almost always in tow, my husband and I rarely get out to fancy restaurants anymore. Thankfully, you can make a perfect horseradish aioli sauce at home with just a handful of simple ingredients. In my not-at-all-biased opinion, this delicious dip is even better than what they have on the restaurant menus.
This creamy aioli has a mayonnaise and sour cream base, brightened up with fresh lemon juice and nice kick from spicy horseradish. It is a perfect dipping sauce for all kinds of beef – from beef tenderloin to prime rib or roast beef sandwiches. Serve it with steak bites for a delicious and simple appetizer or main dish at your next dinner party. This horseradish dip is also great on vegetables, like roasted green beans or asparagus. I can’t wait to try this with homemade sweet potato fries – the flavor is a perfect complement to any root vegetable!

- This is a wonderful dip for all kinds of beef dishes and roasted vegetables – it’s got a perfect creamy sharp flavor that complements rich beef and earthy veggies.

Ingredients

For this horseradish aioli recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- Sour cream: I suggest full fat sour cream for this recipe.
- Mayonnaise: I suggest high quality and full fat mayo for this recipe.
- Prepared horseradish: You can find prepared horseradish in the condiment section of your grocery store. Prepared horseradish is basically grated horseradish root preserved in vinegar. It is my preference in this recipe because it’s readily available and easy! If you’d like to use a fresh root, you can peel it with a vegetable peeler and grate it on the small holes of a box grater to use in this recipe.
- Fresh lemon juice
- Garlic powder: I used garlic powder because I’m not a big fan of the bite of raw garlic cloves. If you like fresh garlic, feel free to use it.
- Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Optional: You could add some fresh herbs to this recipe for color and garnish. Green onion or chives would be my top choice!
What is horseradish?
Horseradish is a root vegetable. It is a close relative of mustard and wasabi, so it is quite spicy. It’s used in all kinds of condiments, like mustard and cocktail sauce, to give them a kick. You can sometimes find fresh horseradish root in the grocery store around the holidays – it’s a straight white root, covered in a brown papery skin. Prepared horseradish (which is basically grated horseradish preserved in vinegar) is readily available in the condiment aisle at most grocery stores.
