What is charcuterie?

Charcuterie originates in France, and the word literally means “cured meats.” Traditional charcuterie consists of meats and cheeses, often served on a wooden board, and accompanied by a glass of wine. And of course, any good meat and cheese board needs… crackers!!

Crispy Crackers

A crunchy cracker is a great addition to your cheese board. Crispy crackers are my favorite for serving with soft cheeses like brie cheese or cream cheese. The texture of the cracker is a great contrast to creamy cheeses.

Breton Original Crackers are a mild tasting, light and crispy wheat cracker. These crackers also come in a variety of flavors like cracked pepper and olive oil, or sweet potato and ancient grains.

Buttery Crackers

Buttery crackers are perfect for spicy or sharp cheeses, like sharp cheddar cheese or pepper jack. They are also great with spicy meats like summer sausage.

The all-time classic butter cracker is, of course, Ritz crackers. These crackers and tender, buttery, salty, and perfect in every way. They may not be the most artisan cracker of the bunch, but honestly, they are pretty much everyone’s favorite, so you should put them on your charcuterie board!

Multigrain Crackers

Whole grain crackers are a nice option to go with harder cheeses that have a strong flavor, like cheddar or gouda.

Carr’s Whole Wheat Crackers are a sturdy cracker made with 100% whole wheat flour. They have a mild, slightly sweet taste.

Gluten Free Crackers

Whenever I’m serving a large crowd, I always like to offer gluten free crackers. Several members of my family are gluten-free, so I’ve personally tried a lot of options!

Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers are my personal favorite. They are a baked rice cracker with sesame seeds, and are super crispy and salty. I like these crackers so much, I regularly buy them for myself even though I’m not gluten-free!

Savory Crackers

There are some delicious artisan crackers available these days in a variety of savory flavors.

Rustic Bakery makes great artisan flatbread crackers. Their Rosemary and Olive Oil Flatbread Crackers would be great herb crackers to add to your charcuterie board. These crackers are a long thin rectangle, and can also be great for adding different shapes to your charcuterie board.

Plain Crackers

Sometimes a simple cracker is what you need to really let your cheese shine. A plain cracker is perfect for serving with boldly flavored specialty cheeses like Boursin, blue cheese or flavored goat cheese.

Carr’s Table Water Crackers are the perfect plain cracker. Mild and crispy, they do their job well – which is to let the strong flavor of their toppings shine!

Homemade Crackers

If you really want to make a memorable charcuterie board, give homemade crackers a try! These delicious crackers will keep your guests coming back for more.
