It’s apple season! My family and I went apple picking last week, and came back with pounds upon pounds of beautiful red and green apples. I like apples, but they are not usually my favorite fruit (I’m more of a berry girl). HOWEVER… this time of year, the apples are so perfectly crisp, perfectly sweet and delicious that I’m snacking on them every day.

This is my favorite dip to eat with apple slices. Made with plain Greek yogurt, creamy peanut butter, maple syrup and vanilla, this healthy snack recipe is about as easy as it gets. It is a perfect complement to many different kinds of dippers, like fresh fruits, graham crackers and pretzels. It’s also a good alternative to traditional veggie dips – the peanut butter flavor is perfect on carrots and celery sticks. If you have a sweet tooth, try this with some chocolate chips on top and nilla wafers on the side. You won’t be sorry!

  • Greek yogurt peanut butter dip is a great way to get some extra protein into your kids after school snack. Greek yogurt and peanut butter are both naturally high protein, which will help keep your kids full until dinner!
  • Serve this at your next party for a yummy appetizer with less calories.

Ingredients

Gather your ingredients. For this simple recipe, you will need:

  • Greek yogurt: I used 2% plain yogurt, but vanilla greek yogurt would also be great in this recipe. If you use vanilla yogurt, you can skip the maple syrup and vanilla extract, and this becomes a two-ingredient recipe! I would not substitute regular yogurt, because the dip won’t have the same thick, creamy consistency.
  • Peanut butter: I usually use natural peanut butter (just peanuts) for this dip, but regular peanut butter works great too. If you are using natural peanut butter, make sure to stir it well before adding to incorporate the oils, so you get a nice smooth dip. I used smooth peanut butter, but I think chunky peanut butter would also be yummy. Give it a go and report back!
  • Maple syrup: For a nice light sweetness. If you prefer less sugar, feel free to reduce the maple syrup by half. If you are using vanilla yogurt and/or regular peanut butter, remember that they likely already contain added sugar. You will want to decrease or omit the maple syrup, so your dip isn’t too sweet. My advice is to mix together the yogurt and peanut butter first, and then add the maple syrup slowly to taste.
  • Vanilla extract: Omit if you are using vanilla yogurt.

Make it your own!

This is a super simple dip that is great to customize. Here are some ideas to try:

  • Use a different nut butter, like almond butter or cashew butter. For a nut-free alternative, try sunflower seed butter.
  • Add some cinnamon, a drizzle of caramel, and some chopped nuts for a perfect apple dip.
  • Top with mini chocolate chips.
  • Try it with different yogurt flavors. A few flavors I saw recently at my grocery store that I think would be super yummy are toasted coconut, salted caramel, and toasted marshmallow.

Instructions

Step One: In a large mixing bowl, add yogurt, peanut butter, maple syrup and vanilla. Stir until all ingredients are well combined. Add to a platter with your favorite dippers and serve!

Storage

This dip stores well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. It may have some liquid at the top when you remove it from the refrigerator (like yogurt does when you first open it). Just give the dip a few quick stirs to mix it back up, and serve!
